During the April 21 broadcast of Smackdown, several additional matched were announced for the upcoming Backlash Premium Live Event. One match in particular has left most fans bemused as to why the match is taking place – including one of the participants in the match, Seth Rollins.
It was announced that Rollins would be facing the Nigerian Giant Omos at the event in Puerto Rico. The match announcement has seemingly come out of nowhere, with the two wrestling having no interaction on recent WWE television. Rollins hasn’t been featured since his bizarre appearance on the April 3 edition of Raw however did return to action on this past week’s Raw, defeating The Miz.
Rollins has now shared the match announcement on Twitter, captioning his post with an Ace Ventura ‘alrighty then’ GIF.
Raw commentator Corey Graves has also shared his reaction to the match, sharing a Rob Swanson GIF.
While it was it used to be common practice for WWE to add seemingly random matches to it’s PPV cards, more recently WWE tends to have some sort of storyline going into the bigger matches. With one more edition of Raw left before Backlash it remains to be seen if this will be used to start a story between Rollins or Omos or if the match will go ahead with no build at all.
