More details have emerged on WWE changing the name of the upcoming premium live event in Saudia Arabia, courtesy of the Wrestling Observer.
The event had been originally advertised as ‘King and Queen Of The Ring’ and would have featured the first King Of The Ring event since 2002. However, earlier in April it was announced the show would be renamed to ‘WWE Night Of Champions’ with no explanation offered explaining the change.
Now, WON’s Dave Meltzer has reported that the name of the event has changed as the result of a ‘booking decision’, going on to explain the reasoning would become clear following Backlash in Puerto Rico on May 6.
It has been speculated that the name may have been changed to coincide with a major landmark being reached by WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Roman Reigns, with the event schedule to take place on what will be the one thousandth day of Reign’s tenure as champion. Many believe that the show will now focus on the accolade although it’s not yet clear exactly what role Reigns will have at the show.
There’s no word on the status of either the King or Queen Of The Ring tournaments, with it now believed they may have been cancelled.
