Dax Harwood knows a match that would put butts in seats at Wembley.
Tony Khan announced last Wednesday on Dynamite that AEW will make their UK debut with “All In” at the historic Wembley Stadium on August 27. Since then, fans have been speculating about the potential “dream matches” that could happen at the world-famous sporting venue. Wembley can pack 90,000 spectators and AEW enthusiasts are hoping that Tony Khan would pull all the stops in order turn All In into a sell-out.
All In has gotten off to a great start with 25,000 people signing up for the show’s pre-sale registration, according to Dave Meltzer’s report in the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter. You can read more on that by clicking here.
While it remains to be seen what the card for the August 27th pay-per-view event will look like, one thing is certain that Khan and his team will have a lot of work to do in order to sell-out Wembley. That being said, FTR’s Dax Harwood has a dream match in mind that with, the right build, could put 50,000 fans in Wembley seats and take AEW to the next level.
The potential match-up in question is FTR and CM Punk versus The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks). Both Harwood and Cash Wheeler recently sat down with Raj Prashad of Uproxx for an interview wherein they talked about the possibility of having said trios match at Wembley and how it could help launch AEW to the next level.
“CM Punk and FTR versus the Elite,” Harwood said. “That’s gotta be it, right? If you want to sell 50,000 tickets and take this company to the next level, that’s it, that’s me dreaming. That’s the dream match. That six-man tag in Wembley Stadium could help launch AEW to the next level.”
Wheeler added: “Wembley Stadium is huge for AEW. AEW has to be ambitious right now. We’ve done so much as a company over the past three years that everybody said we couldn’t do. When Tony said we’re going to sell 20,000 (tickets at Arthur Ashe Stadium), that seemed ridiculous to people at the time. Everybody wants to keep moving the goalposts. Everybody wants to keep saying you can’t do this. I love that we’re going to Wembley because even if it’s not completely to the brim full, 50-, 60-, 70,000, whatever it ends up being, that’s huge for this company. As a company that’s only a couple years into its existence. You can’t play it safe all the time. The roster right now is so deep, why not go for it.”
All competitors in said potential match-up except for Punk are involved in various storylines in AEW. The Second City Saint hasn’t competed for the Jacksonville-based promotion since All Out, when he won the world title from Jon Moxley. Punk’s rant at the post-event scrum and the subsequent brawl with The Elite saw the parties involved at the receiving end of suspension. While Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks returned to AEW at Full Gear, Punk has yet to make his return.
CM Punk took a jibe at Tony Khan, Jon Moxley and Chris Jericho in a since-deleted message. Fans can read more on that by clicking here.
